OOC: I thought I could try and start a discussion/question thingy about the types of characters people role-play.
What personality do most of your characters have and why did you make them that way? Do you have other similar characters to your Fraggle-characters? Same questions for the rest of the design (looks, clothes, other stuff)? Are there types of characters you do not like?
________
I guess you noticed that I prefer silly and goofy characters. That's because they're much more fun to RP (espcially in message board RP's without the "battle" option.) But even in systems like D&D I usually create odd and funny things like a bard who plays on an Alpenhorn (more than 10ft long) and uses it also as club in battle. Or a wizard/sorcerer who's soul is trapped in his familiar (a squirrel) ^^ I think the above example shows I that I like to apply the goofiness also to the looks and the equipment.
I don't like characters who fall into overused clichés (unless it's meant as parody), characters who are all too powerful and adaptable without any weaknesses (or weak weaknesses) and characters, where you can see the creator didn't really spend any time in trying to make them interesting or appealing.
Tell me about yours!

Great idea on the thread! ^_^ The wizard/sorcerer who's soul is trapped in a squirrel is especially funny! Lesse, most of my characters are basically me and have my own personality, or used to. Now I go for more variety. I like characters who are fun and different and sometimes are in the minority. Like a flirtatious meerkat, a world-weary hyena, or a sweet and absent-minded weasel. And my favs are usually things that oppose what other people like to play: lions, elves, foxes, dragons, wolves, harry potter, etc. I do have a char who's similar to my Fraggle, actually. Kiara Fraggle has a human counterpart named Kiara Salazar, who basically looks the same, save for being a human teenager. I also happened to make her a Harry Potter Slytherin cause she fit with her personality, despite me not being a fan XD The chars' design and clothes usually come to me out of nowhere. I just put them into whatever appeals to them. I also don't like cliche characters unless they're a parody; then it can be fun! I don't think anybody likes all powerful characters without a weakness, except for the noobs who created them I like chars with depth. Even if it's a villain who's meant to be evil... which reminds me: I don't like the good vs. evil distinction that is given in most fantasy RPs, cause I don't believe any one char can be completely one or the other. Also, I find "popular" characters less appealing. I'm guilty of making elves and lions myself XP but when the whole forum is populated by them, the RP just isn't as fun or realistic to me.

The only problem with my wizard is... I haven't RPed him yet. ^^ I have so many characters, I hardly find time to play them all... and my D&D group only meets once every 4 weeks... if actually.
You said: "I'm guilty of making elves and lions myself XP but when the whole forum is populated by them, the RP just isn't as fun or realistic to me."
Unless of course you're on a Lion King Fanboard ^^

I also have tons of characters I never have the time to RP. I'd like to rolaplay a goblin Maybe we can have an online D&D game or just a fantasy roleplay? And I did mean Lion King. Almost everyone is a lion on those boards. Course it's not meant to be realistic, but I still prefer hyenas, meerkats, and other African animals who don't get enough recognition ^^

A goblin? Do you per any chance read www.goblinscomic.com/? (It's a very good, funny comic (with some violence) about a a group of goblins who are sick of being attacked by adventurers and start adventuring themselves to become stronger) And well, I think you can't really blame people that want to play a lion on such a board. Even though they would have more options to choose from. Hm... no one here wanted to play a Gorg either ^^ How do you roll dice in an online D&D game? DM rolls everything?

I do read it! But my love for goblins started long before I came across that comic, which I found by searching for them. A friend and I have come up with our own culture for them and basically everything. On a TLK board, you can be any species and not worry about a lion eating you right away cause the movie had them befriending monkeys, meerkats, and warthogs, but it would be a little harder to interact with the other members if you were the only Gorg on the forum ^^; and we do have quite few active members. I've never been in an online D&D game myself, but I do think the DM rolls everything and, ocasionally, even updates the stats for you.

Hehe... another fan. Of course Fumbles is one of my favorites... olthough Complains is pretty funny too. ^^ I tried to make a Fumble-like character with D&D rules... it's a Kobold though... with the self-created flaws "Improved Fumble" (Fumbles with 1 and 2) and "Dangerous Fumble" (an expanded and more dangerous table of the usual fumble table...)
I also thought about a Goblin character... I already got his name "Believes-he-can-fly" but not much else... perhaps afraid of heights ^^
I don't know any place where you could RP D&D online. But we could try to make a test round in this forum (is there an off-Topic forum?) if you are interested. Hm... perhaps if you live close to Vienna we could even meet for a D&D session some time in the future.
Yes, with so few members it is kind of hard going alternative ways.... it doesn't make much sense to differ from the mass if the mass is only a handfull of people ^^

Same here ^^' I tend to create A LOT of characters. Roughly a year ago I dropped creating lion characters. Dunno why but, as you said Lani, the popular stuff is getting less appealing to me. And there are soo many character right now that there's no place for unique and original characters. Right now I'm really into creating anthro (and I mean anthro NOT furry) cat characters. I have even a concept of a world called Catland But that's still a work in progress. ___________________ I have no idea what are you two talking about XD''

Oh, we're talking about "Dungeons and Dragons" and goblin characters and such, Nara XD Cause gobbies are the maligned hyenas of the fantasy world!
Fumbles is one of my favs too ^^ I found an artist on DA yesterday who also loves the critters and started making his own comic just called GOBLINS!, not knowing the previous one existed.
I have a love for languages so I made my own for goblins as well; the dialects are still in progress ;3 so I name mine by actual gobbish words.
I live in Moscow and occasionally in NY... but we can try it out here. I'll make an off-topic forum.

I'm sort of new to the whole entire RP sort of thing. The only other character I have used is MeowMix. Her stats can be found here: www.deviantart.com/deviation/32052844/?qo=2&q=Emeowrald%2C+MeowMix&qh=boost%3Apopular+age_sigma%3A24h+age_scale%3A5 She's my basic online persona so that's why I use her. Also the forum that I used her on at the time, RowdyRuff.net, had many people doing many different types of characters with different super powers so there was a bit more freedom in that. I took part as MeowMix in an RP that lasted over a year. Unfortunatly when RowdyRuff.net had to be revamped the thread was lost, but I still have it on disc if anyone wants to read it. (Warning: It is a very, very, long thread.) Ralga is the second RP character that I have played. She's a bit like MeowMix in that I think everyone puts a bit of themselves in their character. MeowMix is a bit different from other characters in that she is a cat, while Ralga is different from most Fraggles in that she was raised in "Outer Space". I guess you could say I like characters that are a bit odd. For both Ralga and MeowMix what makes them different can sometimes be an advantage or a disadvantage for them. MeowMix simply wears a collar while Ralga wears a black trench coat and a necklace that has a strapless digital watch on it. The kind of characters I don't particularly like are the kind of charaters that try to take over everything and control the entire RP. Killing another character without that person's permission is a big turn off also. I also have seen people make their characters overly powerful, which also is irritating. In the first Fraggle Rock forum where I RPd Ralga someone else who RPd Convincing John gave him some sort of super power so I gave Ralga the ability to fly. In fairness, however, because no one else has given thier characters any super powers I have decided that Ralga does not have this ability here on this forum, either that or there will turn out to be another explaination for this flying ability. Until someone else comes with a Fraggle, Doozer, Gorg, or whatever with a super power of some kind I don't think it would be fair to use it. I've seen someone RP as a Doozer, but it is understandable why Gorgs aren't preffered. The fact that a Gorg can't fit into Fraggle Rock itself makes things very limiting for them.

I don't personally like the prospect of Fraggles having super powers unless there's a really good reason behind it. However, when I join a forum and there's godmoding or superpowerful characters doing all kinds of crazy stuff, I allow myself such crazy stuff as well XD
It would be interesting to see some Doozer chars here; at least they live inside Fraggle Rock.

That's exactly why Ralga doesn't have that abiltiy on this forum. In a Roleplay called "Stuck in Outer Space" she did, but that was only because there were other characters that had super powers too. And I figured that if someone could give Convincing John super powers he didn't have in the series then I interprited that as permission for Ralga's flying powers. I'm not naming names, but there was one person in that particular RP who [did make theier character unfairly powerful.
