Met a couple people who thought it would be "friggin awesome" to build a fraggle rock sim in second life. The characters would be the easiest thing to create, as they're well, Fraggles. Anyone want to help design and build and maybe even start up a SL sim with me? It's fun, I hate SL personally but I think its fun to play with, Not much of a text based rpger myself but if I can build and cloth my own full 3d fraggle and live in a virtual Fraggle Rock, I think I'd be pretty happy ^.^ So, anyone? Input some ideas and so on. Contact me ^.^

I think that'd be an awesome idea! :3 I heard some pretty bad things about SL, mostly that it has pervy people walking about, so I never joined. But Fraggles can make any place better! I dunno how I could help, though. I'm no good at modeling or programming.

I played SL for a few hours and didn't encounter any perversities. But I didn't continue because it wasn't really for me. Although I really like the idea of the Fraggle Rock thing... although there might be copyright issues... especially should this thing get big.
As far as I know there are 2 SLs. One PG-world (or was it PG13) where everyone goes who is not 18 yet and where the content is striktly controlled. And there is the Adult SL-world where only people above 18 are allowed to create characters at (this is where I was). But this does not mean you can run around "naked" (or worse) as each area has a seperate rating. Welcome Islands (where you start) for example have the same PG rating. As long as you don't enter 18+ areas (and I think you are warned before you do so) you should be safe.
But I haven't tried long enough to really confirm this. I stopped because the standard avatar was butt ugly (and unless you have a paid account you don't have the money to buy a better avatar from other players.) And of course it lags very strong, contents load very slow and the control is rather arkward and stiff.

It's the ideas we need ^.^ We can sanction off the area we buy and allow access to members only. And from what I've read, you don't even need to know what you are doing to make avatars, or houses, or any object. As long as we don't go into outter space, we're safe from dangerous things ^.^ The thing is, I think land is a small (like 3$) or so monthly charge, I'll have to read up on it, but you can do whatever you want with your land, you can buy room for more "primatives" or shapes, so like, you can make it as cool as you want or can afford, if worce comes to worce we can set up a pay pal account just for use in the rock and link it to a donations buttonon the members page here. Fraggles themselves are simple to make, there isnt more than 4 or 5 shapes on thier heads, and the rest of them is like, 2 shapes per arm pluss hand, and 3 shapes per leg including foot, thats about 16 shapes all together, most avatars there lag the place a bit as they have 30 or so shapes to them and that's the basic avs, mine currently has like 63 shapes so building fraggle avs will be extreemley easy and fun. Thing is, SL takes up more resourses than its worth on you puter, i have to close aim and stuff to stableize it, some times it locks but thats because i go into some avatards house who has like 500 shapes in one room each with its own texture map and there are like 40 ppl there... so I push it allot. lol

It only laggs hard core when youre in an over populated area or there are tons of venders, and stuff going on, not much moving tree maps in fraggle rock, and as far as copyright issue, I think if we call it something else we should be ok, like Fraggles Rock or something, I can talk to my old boss, he runs KidsQuest Productions, a henson affiliate, hell maybe we could even get funding for it and programmers in on it from the actual Henson teams. I worked with him for a while, but the commute was hard as i had no vehicle. and wound up costing me more than I got paied. But I got to work on animatronic puppets and so on lol first time I ever heared the word "puppet hole" and had to take it seriously ^.^ It was fun work though, got to meet allot of cool people, like BlueMan Group, they came by and donated a bunch of stuff, I got to play on the old sets that he aquired from In Between The Lions, and even Pigs In Space ^.^ Nothing from the rock though I'da bought it off em lol. Well, lemme know if this is a good enough idea to actually start and I'll start looking for blocks of land and prices, I think I can dump like at most 40$ into the place, wich in in world money thats lose to a few million lol. (like, 1,000.00L is equal to some where around 2$) So lemme know ^.^ Oh and our land can have any rules we want, permissions can be set so no one can come in that isnt part of our group and adult actions can be disabled and so on. So it can and will be good clean fraggle fun ^.^ P.P.S. Parody laws also protect us, as a fan base, we may even be able to use the name, as I have seen worlds.com have things dedicated to blair witch, hanson, and numerous other copyrighted things, all falling under the parody laws, as we arent making any money by selling anything from it, we should be fine.

I think a Fraggle Rock setting really wouldn't lag as much, being only caves and stuff. And I doubt we'd have too many members who not only like Fraggle Rock, but would actually spend time to play them. So... it's a really good idea... but we might want to wait a bit until we get more members here and a DA club before you spend any money on it.
As for copyrights, I love the idea of actually being affiliated with Henson. Then we might get the funding and the issue of copyrights wouldn't even exist. It would be a good ad for them ;3

Why stop there, in SL you can have as many avatars as you want, under the same user name and password.... If we get the Henson support, we could have Dark Crystal and Labrynth sims ajasent to us.

Great! ^_^ Then I can have Kiara as well. What would Fraggle houses look like anyways? They're just caves.

Caves should be easy as all the shapes are just shapes, the texture maps will be pretty much the same. So it will load one texture map and then the geometry is just numerical data so there isnt any reason it shouldnt load quick using the same texture map.

Ok, I have emailed the Henson Studio's Licensing Department and the Digital Creative Media teams, Hopefully, they don't think I/We're a bunch of nut jobs. lol.

Land in Second life is kinda pricey, I'm going to walk around and see how big places are and how muchyou get for the money, but the prices are as fallows: secondlife.com/whatis/landpricing.php However I am emailing a person within second life's staff that may be able to greatly reduce or eliminate the montly charge. lets hop it goes well.

"Group members" can Co own land, it seems that you can own the entire "Fragle Rock" for a combined fee, meaning we each pay like 3$/mo in opposed to like 50$/mo or 125$/mo hopefully my insider friend will be apt to help us out with some idea of how much virtual land we will need and how to get it on the overly cheap if not free of monthly costs.

No monthly fees sounds too good to be true XD But I do hope it won't be too much; those prices look crazy. And the more members we have sharing the fees, the less each of us will have to pay ^^

That's what i'm thinking. I just dont want to see us have to pay out the butt for something that no one would use. As more members join, less money will have to be paied, thus giving insentive to bring more Fraggles into the world lol
